Park Hill Summer Paint-out (Plein Air) Schedule 2011

WHEN: Every Thursday during the summer.
WHERE: Different location each week.
TIME: Meet at 9:00 AM
WHO: Open to all painters, friends are welcome. Feel free to make copies of the schedule to give to others.
WHAT TO Bring: Art supplies, water, sun block, folding stool or chair, umbrella, and lunch.

  • June 2nd Denver Botanic Gardens. 10th Ave. and York. Parking lot across the street with access from both York and Josephine. NOTE: Admission fee. Meet inside front gate. Beautiful flower gardens. Restrooms/water/food.
  • June 9th Red Rocks Park Spectacular red rock formations, view of Denver. Meet at visitors center (Trading Post.) Take I-70 to the Morrison exit. Go left (South) on Highway 26 to park entrance, than follow the signs. Restrooms, water, restaurant available at Trading Post.
  • June 16th Daniels Park near Castle Rock. Take I-25 to Castle Pines Parkway. (It’s a few miles before Castle rock outlet stores) Head west or right about 2.4 miles to intersection with N. Daniels park road. Turn right onto Daniels Park Road into park, about .5 miles to area with shelter. Caution watch out for the traffic circle, it’s easy to get off Castle Pines Pkway. Alternate route from west: take Sante Fe road (85) slightly past Chatfield Dam to Daniels Park Road (29) Take directly into Daniels park. Fantastic view, rock formations, restrooms, shelter but may need umbrella for other great views. Bring water.
  • June 23rd Noell Custer’s House* (West of Lookout Mountain) 26406 Columbine Glen Trail. Views of Mt. Evans and the Continental Divide, old barns and sheds, maybe wildflowers and garden flowers, 40 acres of mountain land next to buffalo enclosure. Take I-70 West to Exit 254 (sign is marked Genesee Park) at top of Mt. Vernon Canyon. Turn right (north) on Mt. Vernon Country Club Road. Go past Rockland Church to Columbine Glen (just before Mt Vernon Club Gateway). Turn left (west). Go STRAIGHT west approx. 6/10-mile…road ends in our driveway. Restroom/water.
  • June 30th Roxborough State Park SW of Denver, Admission fee. Spectacular red rock formations and scenery, Natural Park. Take C470 to Wadsworth Blvd. South on Wadsworth 4.4 miles to Waterton Road, turn East, left, go 1.6 mile to North Rampart Range Road, turn right South and go 2.3 miles to Roxborough Park Road. Turn left and go one block to turnoff onto the park access road, drive south 2.2 miles on the access road to reach the park. Restrooms/water. CAUTION: watch out for rattlesnakes.
  • July 7th Denver Botanic Gardens. 10th Ave. and York. Parking lot across the street with access from both York and Josephine. NOTE: Admission fee. Meet inside front gate. Beautiful flower gardens. Restrooms/water/food.
  • July 14th Crown Hill Regional Park Near W. 26th and Kipling. Take W.6th ave to Kipling and head North to 26th. Turn right or east on 26th for 3 blocks. Parking on the left or north side of road. Shelter and rest rooms. Great view of lake, woods and mountains.
  • July 21st Bear Creek Park Near Sheridan and Hampden (285). Lots of shade along a cool river. View the of mountains. Take Hampden to Sheridan. Turn North on Sheridan to Dartmouth. (By Bear Valley Shopping Center.) Head East (right) on Dartmouth to Raleigh St. Turn right on Raleigh (south.) Raleigh will take you under Hampden Ave. The road will curve to the right, continue past the baseball area. Restrooms,water and tables.
  • July 28th South Mesa Trail Head by Eldorado State Park. Take 6th avenue west to Morison it will turn into 93. Continue on 93 North for about 18 miles until you turn left (west) on 170 (Eldorado Springs Dr.) Continue for about 1.7 miles to South Mesa Trail head. It will be on the Right. Good view, stream, small old stone farm building. Parking, Restrooms.
  • Aug 4th Denver Botanic Gardens. 10th Ave. and York. Parking lot across the street with access from both York and Josephine. NOTE: Admission fee. Meet inside front gate. Beautiful flower gardens. Restrooms/water/food.
  • Aug 11th Rocky Mountain Arsenal at Havana and 56th Take I-70 to Havana exit. Head North on Havana past 56th Ave. you will enter through a security gate. There may be someone there. Head straight ahead to the visitors center and parking. There are several small lakes and paths to the south of the parking lot. Great view of the mountains, old house behind the visitors center, animals, rattlesnakes, water/restrooms.
  • Aug 18th Lair’O The Bear Park Mountain Park along Bear Creek. Pretty river, trees, mountain side, picnic tables near the creek, Take I-70 to C470 Morrison Road exit. Go West through Morrison and up Bear Creek Canyon on Highway 74. Park is a short distance on the left past Idledale and is well marked. Restrooms/water.
  • Aug 25th Georgetown Take I-70 west past Idaho Springs to the Georgetown exit # 228. Turn left and go under the highway. There will be a visitors center on the immediate right. This would be a good place to meet. There are many old houses, several parks and public restrooms. A walking tour can be picked up at visitors center listing all attractions. Guanella Pass has great scenery.
  • Sep. 1st Bear Creek Open Space in Lakewood. Take Wadsworth to Yale, head West on Yale to Estes St. (about a mile)Turn left or south on Estes about 1/8 mile into parking lot. Small lake (pond) pretty creek excess, shelter, cottonwoods and willows and trails, portapotties.
  • Sep 8th Star K Ranch Part of Sand Creek Green Way in Aurora. Take I-70 East to Chambers. Go South on Chambers to Smith Road. Go East on Smith Road to Laredo. Turn right and follow curve about 1block. The Morrison Nature Center (Star K Ranch) will be on the left. Ranger station, Water, indoor restrooms, trails, trees, deer, & small creek.
