Sketchbook Studio II: All New Exercises and Activities!

Sketchbook Studio II is a chance for artists who have considered starting a regular sketchbook practice, and for artists who just want to loosen up and have some fun creating with other artists.

In Sketchbook Studio you will play in your sketchbooks without worrying about creating beautiful artworks. One aim of the class is to quiet the voices in your head that say your art isn’t good enough, and just have fun creating. Your sketchbook can become a space for artistic freedom and exploration without judgment.

Ruby will bring lots of supplies for you to play with. You will only need to bring a few basic supplies, making it easy to get away for a few hours of art play. We’ll use markers, pens, pencils, crayons, watercolor, and ink to explore and experiment with some techniques to help get you started with a doable, regular art practice.

By the end of this 4-week class, you’ll have several new ideas and techniques to keep you busy filling your sketchbook pages. Perhaps you’ll also begin to uncover a path to discovering more about yourself as an artist.

SUPPLIES FOR STUDENTS TO BRING

**Sketchbook or Art Journal with at least 90 lb. mixed media or watercolor paper. If you have a sketchbook with unused pages, it is perfect if it has paper that can withstand water. Good brand options are: Canson XL mixed media book, Strathmore watercolor mixed media (both available at Guiry's). Any size you'd like to work in. Five Below usually has an inexpensive watercolor sketchbook with good paper.

A black fine line pen: Ruby prefers a 06 or 10 Gelly Roll (from Guiry's) or an Ultra fine point Sharpie will work.

A pencil and eraser

Watercolor paintbrush, #4 or 6 round, and a 3/4" flat or angle (SNAP brushes at Guiry's are inexpensive)

A container for water

Tissue or paper towels

Optional items:

Your own watercolor set or any other of your favorite drawing or coloring materials.

A pair of craft scissors

Ruby will bring plenty of supplies to share, so don't worry about buying anything new. You’ll get a chance to try new materials to see what you might like.
