4 Thursday Morning Sessions Starting in July: July 9-30 from 9:30 AM to Noon

Sketchbook Doodles in (mostly) Black and White

Sketchbook Doodles is a chance for artists who have considered starting a regular sketchbook practice, and for artists who just want to loosen up and have some fun creating with other artists.

In this class you will play in your sketchbooks without worrying about creating beautiful artworks. One aim of the class is to quiet the voices in your head that say your art isn’t good enough, and just have fun creating. Your sketchbook can become a space for artistic freedom and exploration without judgment.

We’ll use mostly black and white markers and pens to create interesting figures and abstracts to help get you started with a doable, regular art practice.

By the end of this 4-week class, you’ll have an extensive inventory of personal doodles to help keep you busy filling your sketchbook pages. Perhaps you’ll also begin to uncover a path to discovering more about yourself as an artist.

SUPPLIES FOR STUDENTS TO BRING

  • Sketchbook with good watercolor or mixed media paper so that markers won’t soak through. Any size; you don’t need to buy a new one if you already have a sketchbook with good paper.
  • Pentel Pocket Brush Pen with spare refills (Meinigers has them.) This Brush Pen is wonderful, but pricey. Less expensive options are Black Posca Pen (5M} or Black Sharpie Creative Marker.
  • Your favorite fine point black marker. Sharpie is ok.
  • An ultra fine black pen: Gelly Roll Pens in size 06 or 08 or a Micron
  • White markers and pens: a gel pen, either a white Gelly Roll 08 or a Uniball white gel pen. Optional: White Posca Pen Extra Fine
  • Pencil and eraser.
  • Optional: Drawing tools for making straight lines and circles.
