Exploring Gelli Plate Printmaking
Explore monoprinting with gelli plates in a hands-on, experimental class focused on process and discovery.
In this 3-week class, you will:
• Learn the basics of gelli plate printing, including how to roll paint, pull prints, and build layers using stencils, textures, and simple masking techniques.
• Practice color mixing and layering to understand how different colors interact on the plate and how they build over time on paper.
• Experiment with a variety of tools and materials to create different surface effects, patterns, and layers, and develop a collection of printed papers for future use.

SUPPLIES TO BRING
- Gelli plate (any size, 5x7” or 8x10” recommended)
- Brayer (soft rubber brayer for rolling paint)
- Acrylic paints (a few colors you love + black and white)
- Different types of paper for printing (ex: copy paper, deli paper, rice paper, old books,etc)
- Posca Acrylic Pens
- Textured items for printing (bubble wrap, leaves, lace, mesh, textured paper towels, etc.)
- Baby wipes or damp rags for cleanup
- Hair Dryer
- Painters tape
-Paper Towels
Behnaz will also bring these same supplies.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Behnaz Ahmadian is a self-taught mixed media artist, instructor, and interior designer. She teaches a variety of classes for adults, sharing her passion for color, texture, layering, and collage. Her work focuses primarily on acrylic and mixed media collage, often incorporating hand-painted papers and inspired by nature, organic forms, and pattern. Growing up in a creative family and influenced by her mother, a fashion designer, Behnaz brings a strong sense of color and design into both her artwork and teaching. She encourages students to explore their creativity while developing their own artistic voice.
